So often “newness” or “new life” must begin with death. Death to self. Death to the old person with the old ways. Death to temporal beliefs and ideals.
“Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” (Romans 6:4) Baptism is a picture. It symbolizes a human dying with Christ and then resurrecting with Him. We transform from self-reliant to complete submission to total freedom in a life with Christ.
“New” begins with the death of the old. This step cannot be bypassed.
