Jesus makes some incredible statements at the seemingly oddest times. One of them is found in Matthew 26:64, when He is on trial for claiming to be God. He defends His claim with this prediction, “Hereafter shall you see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power and coming I the clouds of heaven.” In a practical, physical sense, this seems a bit fantastic.
Jesus was addressing His enemies, the religious leaders of His day who were always hounding Him throughout His earthly ministry. They constantly disparaged Him, nagging Him about His claim to be God. Jesus here affirms that one day they will be forced to accept His claim as truth, when they witness Jesus’ return as King of Earth. But HOW? How can men, living in hell for millennia, witness the physical return of Jesus? Can people in the grave actually see current events? This one leaves me pondering, cogitating on the reality of eternal things. Any thoughts?
