Not only did God create light, not only IS God light, but also His Word is light. If light can mean illumination, or something that helps us to see, then God’s Word is capable of lighting up our understanding and safely directing our way.
Psalm 119:105 boldly proclaims, “Your word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Here the psalmist comprehends the power of the Word to light our life and the path that lies before us. Although we can’t see our future, the light of God’s Word shines on a section of our life’s path before we even reach it. This gives the lover of God’s Word an advantage.
As I walk through life valuing the strength of God’s Word, I can see hints of things just down the pathway a bit. I can glimpse danger and avoid it. I can see an enemy and prepare for battle or I can see a wounded companion and be ready to help.
God’s Word is light. As a lamp, it is the Source of light. As that which emanates from the lamp and lights my journey, it’s a wise tool to always have on hand.
